17 U.S.C. § 512 — DMCA Safe Harbor

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998 provides a notice-and-takedown framework under Section 512. To be effective, a takedown notice must substantially comply with all six elements of § 512(c)(3)(A), including identification of the copyrighted work, identification of the infringing material with sufficient location information, contact details, a good faith belief statement, an accuracy/perjury statement, and a physical or electronic signature. False or materially misrepresented notices may result in liability under § 512(f).
